Replacing the front struts on a '05 Lexus GX470 is a relatively intensive procedure that takes about 2-4 hours to perform. Here it is a write-up on replacing the front struts on a GX470:
1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
2. Remove the wheel.
3. Remove the stabilizer bar.
4. Remove the clamps and connector.
5. Remove the wire bracket.
6. Remove the lower strut bolt.
7. Remove the 3 upper strut nuts.
8. Remove the strut.
9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Do not fully tighten the lower strut bolt until the vehicle is resting on the ground and the suspension has been jounced a few times. Observe the following torques:
§ Upper nuts: 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
§ Bracket nut: 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm)
§ Stabilizer bar links: 52 ft. lbs. (70 Nm)
§ Wheel: 83 ft. lbs. (112 Nm)
§ Lower strut bolt: 100 ft. lbs. (135 Nm)
