How do you replace the fuel filter located on a 1997 Ford Expedition?

To remove the fuel filter you need a special tool that you can either rent free from Autozone or you can go to Sears like I did and buy the kit which includes 5 different sizes of rings. You can also find the product on the Sears website under "Fuel Line Disconnect Tool".
Basically you slide the ring inside of the female connection and pull gently. Be sure that you released the pressure from the line first. To do this open the fuel door and remove cap and then also carefully press the schraeder valve on the fuel lines that feed the injectors.
Good luck and after spending hours trying to figure this out, you will be done in less than 5 minutes with this necessary tool.
to remove the filter you need to get a special release tool.the auto parts store sells them in a kit. small plastic rings choose the right size place over fule line and pull back to realse. about 8 bucks.
