There is two filters one is under the hood and it located on the passanger side and has a vaccum hose to it. And then there is the one in the fuel tank. You need to remove the bed of the truck and empty the fuel out of it.Then go to the auto parts store and ask for a new sock and filter. They become full of gunk from the fuel and depends on how long it has been bad.So try it and look at the pump when you take it out of the tank.Cause sometimes the wires go bad and make the filter not work correctly.
I just replaced my 1989 4.3l fuel filter aftr locating it right under the driver's seat clamped to the inside of the frame rail. you just need std open end wrenches. 10-15 min job
