To replace the fuel pump you must remove the fuel tank. I have done this twice on my 1991 S-10. the pump is located inside the tank and must be accessed from the top of the tank.there are two metal bands that hold the fuel tank in place, they are secured by two bolts that screw into a cross member of the frame. make sure to put a jack or other support under the tank before you remove the bolts that secure the bands as the fuel tank is very cumbersome even when it is empty. there is a lock ring and gasket that has to be removed and the fuel pump and hanger will lift out. to replace repeat the operation in reverse.
