it/s slow going and you will have a cosiderable amount of screws and bolts to remove so you should be sure not to lose any of them.you will have to remove the glove box among other things.there is a tool that is necessary in removing the hoses from the core on the engine side of the firewall. don't know its' name but the clerk can help and its' only made for Ford.as i said, it is a time consuming job so be patient w/yourself and you'll also need someplace to put all the parts you take off.(yes, there are a lot of them)most of all, after you put it back together in reverse order and you've filled the reservoir, remove the top heater hose from the water pump, start engine, bleed air out of the heater core until water comes out. otherwise you'll have done the job correctly but you'll only have mediocre or less heat.(it took 2 years with crappy heat in Wisconsin winters before i figured it out(actually, my father in law told me))
This is an indication that your heater core is leaking. To stop the leaking you will have to replace the heater core or stop using your heater.
Look near or behind the alternator. The valve that controls flow of coolant to the heater core on my 1987 Aerostar is located on the left wall of the engine compartment. I imagine the 1991 is similar. Trace the heater hoses from the engine/water pump and you will find it.
