Dealer or wrecking yard.
You first need to remove the plastic trim pieces from around the steering column, then turn your key to the 'on' position and look for a small button underneath the ignition cylinder housing. If you're looking at the cylinder from the passenger's seat, it's at approximately 6 - 7 o'clock. use an awl or other pointed object to push the button in and remove your cylinder by pulling the key toward the passenger's side of the car. Installation is the opposite of removal. thats how you replace the key cylinder not the ignition switch.
u have to take Phillips head screws out of plastic around steering column, take screws from around instrument panel two screws at top and pop out small plastic panel on each side of steering colum on instrument panel and also take bolts out of steel plate under column and work it out gently. remove plastic pieces from around column then it will be on the right side of the column with 2 special star bolts in it take them out and there u have it
You should replace the ignition coils(8).I suggest you order from online autoparts store and replace yourself. The coil is around $60.00 each and easy to replace it.
Ignition switch removal is not too bad. The plastic cover around the steering column has 3-4 screws in it. They are on the underside facing the floor. Remove these screws and the plastic cover will snap off. That will expose the ignition switch. The switch itself has a couple of screws holding it in place. Remove those screws and unplug it from the wire harness on the back. That's it.
How much 'older'? I have a '78 Bronco. Ignition switch has a bezel ring that secures the switch to the dash. Simply unscrew the ring from the front, then pull switch assembly from the rear of dash. Once it is free from dash there are plastic clips holding the assy together.
You have to remove the panel under the stearing column, and around the ignition switch. Once this is done t here is a release button on it after inserting the key. It should slide right out after that.
