take one off at a time, and replace with a new one. then so on.

Replace the ignition lock cylinder.
Remove cowling from under the steering wheel, remove the two nuts holding the wheel coloum. Drop the steering coloum. Ignition switch is about a foot down on the left side. Unhook the wires remove switch replace. P.S. Unhook battery cables high voltage in ignition system.
You drill out the exsisting ignition switch!!
The ignition module is located under the three ignition coils. The same bolts that hold the coils in place also retain the module to the mounting bracket. To find the coils, follow the ignition wires from the front of the engine to where they attach at the rear. The wires clip to the coils.

Where all the wires plug into. That is the ignition coil. The ignition coil is inside the distributor behind the cap. Remove the distributor cap screws, remove the cap and you will see the coil.

Begin by removing the retaining ring at the top of your 1996 Mercury Tracer ignition switch. The ignition lock cylinder will slide out. Remove the wiring harness from the end of the cylinder. Reverse the process to install your new ignition lock cylinder.
