if you do not wish to pull the engine you will need to take the exhaust loose on both sides, take the top radiator hose loose and loosen the fan trowel. It will be necessary to jack the motor up i placed the jack under the the balancer, jack it up as high as you can. you will also need to take the rear motor mounts loose to do this. You can then take out all the bolts on the oil pan. once the oil pan is loose it will drop down but will not clear in oder to come all the way out you will have to remove the oil pump first it is located at the drivers side front corner of the oil pan then there is a bolt near the rear of the engine that holds a bracket that goes to the pump. once you have the pump loose the oil pan and pump will come out. you will want to clean everything and do the reverse to install the new pump that means the pump and pan will have to go in at the same time. When replacing the oil pan gasket I suggest a fel pro i piece rubber gasket the are easier to install they have for little plastic studs that will hold the gasket up while you install the pan good luck and have fun
Yes, you can put any other speed tranny in as long as the bolt patterns match. What this means is that you have to find out what other transmissions your engine will accept. Then you can choose from those.
