SOHC, '97, 120KMi.........shy of an overhaul the whole engine-front must come off, for a timing belt/tensioner, water pump, oil pump, drop the oil, filter, & oil pan. There are YouTube step-by-step coverage, -OR- you can actually get a manual and dive in. MODERATELY SIMPLE........
just tedious. Oil pump can be removed - AFTER oil pan is removed - a captured P/U tube.
After all of this fun - remove the valve cover - adjust valves (unless hydraulic) and
replace with 4 new Vertical Spark Plug Pipe seals and cover gasket. This will take care of the tubes from flooding with oil.
120K was enough for the Automatic.....
Drop that hazard, replace every Cup-N-Bearing, Clutch & steel, gaskets & seals.........
Nice rebuild ! The valve body MUST be reprogrammed -TO- manual shift.
Unless you want to return home in 1st or 2nd.......the governor counterweights ARE
NOTORIOUS for sticking. Call Superior Products and ask for a KIT for a 404-413-670.
A pleasure to drive, with the mind on other things, than a jar of Rolaids.
Now for that pukey sound system.......

You will need to use the Haynes repair manual, Dodge Neon 2000 thru 2003. Book #30036 I used it to change an oil pump and it helped alot!
Remove the oil pan. The oil pump will be visible. Remove the retaining bolts from the oil pump. Reverse the process to install the new oil pump.
Where is the oil sending unit on a 2000 dodge neon?
The oil pump is located inside the engine oil pan. The oil pan will need to be dropped to access it.
