I'd check a Haynes or Chilton manual. This is a common question here, and
there seems to be no definitive answer. Thermostats are located in a couple
of places, dependent on what year the car is, and which engine you have.
On my '96, for example, where you would expect to find the thermostat, is
not where it is. If I recall correctly, there's even something stamped into the
block there saying that there is no thermostat here, or words to that effect.
I think the therm in my car is located at the engine end of the lower radiator
hose.

There is no speedo cable on a Sunfire.
To change the thermostat on a sunfire, look for the largest hose going into the water pump.Should be to the left as you look down at your fan. There should be a clamp holding the hose on. Remove the hose and look in the hole that the hose was pulled out of. It will be seated right there. If you need a pic. I have a manual and I can email it to anyone . My email is: jaybird@supercity.ca
The thermostat is located in the housing where the top radiator hose connects to the engine. You will have to disconnect the hose and unbolt the housing to get to the thermostat.
Pay a mechanic to replace it
