Youve just redone the thermostat
Just a note: I had a buddy who wanted to help. so he tightened the thermostat housing and cracked it. the torque specs for my '90 was 13 ft/lbs or so. It should be around the same for the 89. Just don't reef on the housing bolts.
The temperature gauge sending unit, located on a 1989 Honda Accord LXI is located on the thermostat. It is the small connection with a single wire sticking out of it.

the thermostat is in the front of the block where the bottom rad hose connects.
The thermostat is located at the back of the engine near where the radiator hoses attach. There is a housing held in by two bolts. It may be necessary to remove the air cleaner housing to access it. The new thermostat from Honda comes with the gasket and can only be installed one way (with the pin up).

At the engime end of the upper rad hose. Make sure the spring goes toward the engine.
your thermostat should be located on the drivers side of the engine underneath the distributor behind the inlet for the bottom hose. remove the two nuts and pull the inlet off.
AnswerBy following the lower radiator hose that goes in to the back of engine you will find the thermostat housing. The temperature sensor is located there too for the 1992 1.5 (1.6) liter engine and many newer ones. Should you need to replace the temperature sensor in a motor prior to 1992, it is located under the distributor on the head closer to the firewall than the radiator.
thermostat is located under radiator cap!
The thermostat housing is located at the front of the engine just beneath the distributor.
