How do you replace the thermostat located on a 1997 Chevy Camaro RS?
open the radiator cap to release any pressure from the system. Follow the top hose from the radiator and unbolt the two 14 mm bolts holding the thermostat housing in place. Remove the thermostat out of the housing. I replaced mine with a fram 195 degree fail safe (when fails stays open not shut)thermostat. Reinstall making sure you use proper gasket and proper thermostat.
Drain the radiator into a container. Remove the upper radiator hose at the engine end. there is 2 bolts in the housing that hold the thermostat. Remove them and the thermostat and clean both surfaces. Install the new thermostat and housing. Install the upper hose and top off the radiator with a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water.
The last year Chevy Celebrity made was 1990 but generally speaking to replace a thermostat: 1. Using a suitable container drain the coolant below the level of the thermostat. 2. Remove the water outlet. The thermostat will be there. 3. Clean mating surfaces and install the replacement thermostat. 4. Put the bolts back in, replace the coolant and check for leaks.
