Make sure the engine is cold. Get a 13mm socket with long extension.
Get a large Ziploc bag. Place the bag under the top radiator hose at the engine. Loosen the bolts and capture the fluid that spills out into the bag. Next pry the thermostat out using a flat blade screwdriver and capture the fluid that comes out. Save this for later.
Now remove the rubber gasket around the edge of the old thermostat. Put this gasket carefully on your new thermostat. Press this into the opening (wiggle it a bit as needed) with the jiggle pin at the top (if it has one).
Replace the therrmostat housing (13 mm bolts) and tighten.
Remove the expansion tank cap.
Pour the captured fluid back in.
