My friend, you are better off having a mechanic install your water pump. Thirty years ago, you can easily change water pumps. My friends and I did it all the time. I used to work in an auto parts store, so I knew how to do it by asking mechanics and reading books. Repairs were much simpler back in the 1960's and 1970's. Today, too many devices/pumps/connections get in the way, and they are all timed, linked together so much, you really don't want to do it yourself. (A/C, Power Steering, timing chain/belt, serpentine belt, alternator, emissions) Unless you are a mechanic yourself, then you already know how to do it. And depending on your mileage, if you have not replaced your timing chain/belt, a good mechanic will advise you to let him change the timing chain/belt while a major portion of the front of the engine is apart, and he can replace it more easily. And you should let him. Your vehicle will run better and last longer.
