6-21-08 Just had mine replaced at an auto glass dealer. They got regulator from Jeep dealer for $170 and installed it for another $55. Felt it was a fair price.
03-24-09 I bought a new regulator on EBay for $99.00. I replace it myself - it took me about 35 minutes to complete. 1)Take off door panel, remove the speaker and nylon covering 2) remove bolts holding the regulator and motor to door 3) remove metal pin (slides out) holding window to nylon plate 4) disconnect power cable from motor 5) slide old regulator module through large hold at top of door 5) Have some one hold the window in up position (or tape it up) 6) put new unit into door through same hole 7) attach power cable 7: bolt unit and motor to door 8) slide window down and reposition on nylon plate and replace metal pin to hold window to unit 8) replace nylon covering, speaker and door pannel.
Note; after it is put back together if the door doesn't open from inside of car you accidently engaged the child proof lock
This took me about 35 minuts, required no special tools and i am not a "mechanic" My local Jeep dealer wanted $307.05 to do this.
Replace defective window regulator
It could be the window regulator. The Liberty is know for having problems with this part.
You will have to replace the complete window regulator assembly.
you will have to replace the window regulator.
The lift plate is at the bottom of the window, that pushes the window up, and pulls it down. The regulator is the motor, and linkage that is attached to the lift plate to drive it.
take it to an auto glass shop, it is not that expensive
The engine computer is also the regulator.
Remove the door panel. Remove the bolt that fastens the regulator to the window. Remove the 3 bolts that hold the regulator assembly to the door. Squeeze the entire assembly through the largest hole and replace with a new assembly in reverse order.
The regulator is part of the engine computer on a 1996 Jeep. It is not in the alternator.
If the window regulator cable has failed, the entire regulator will have to be replaced.
External, the engine computer is the regulator.
