There is not speedometer cable on a 1996 Honda Civic. There is a throttle cable. Top replace this unhook it from the throttle body and gas pedal. Hook on the new cable to snake it through the firewall. Properly hook the throttle cable to the gas pedal and throttle body.
replace the throttle cable.
Speed sensor. There is not a cable on this car.
Check the cable from the transmission, probably broken.
I had a stuck throttle on my 1996 Passport. The throttle cable had a piece of protective black rubber around the throttle cable between the outer cable covering and where the cable connects to the throttle body. The rubber had began to come apart and some of it was getting inside the throttle cable covering, causing the throttle cable to bind. I removed the rubber piece and cleaned out the cable by covering it with GOOF-OFF and then sliding the cable in and out until my cleaning rag was clean when I wiped off the cable. I did not replace the rubber piece and have had no problems since.
On the bottom of the throttle body - look where the pedal cable meets with the throttle body - look opposite the end of the connection assembly on the other side you will see the throttle position sensor.
TPS usually means throttle position sensor, and it doesn't have a "cable".
There are two cables. One is the Throttle valve (TV) cable and that should go from the throttle linkage to the transmission. It will pop off the throttle arm and there is one bolt holding the cable housing to the transmission. take it out the bolt and unhook the linkage and replace the cable making sure to snap it back on at the throttle arm. The other cable is the for shifting and it should attach to a lever arm on the side of your transmission and go to the shifter linkage. If you are under the car and have someone shift with the car off you will see the the arm moving disconnect it from both ends of the cable and replace.
Take it to a mechanic ASAP. This is very dangerous. a cause of is the throttle cable fraying replace the throttle cable.
