The 1999 Kia Sportage 2-wheel drive has a timing belt. Mine just shredded driving down the highway. So replace your belts at 60,000 to 90,000 miles like the book says. I have 91,000.

The water pump is driven by timing belt, so, replace the timing belt while you are replacing water pump, because you have to take off timing belt to get to water pump.
