The answer provided was helpful, but not totally useable. My suggestion,

  1. Jack up the car and remove the wheel.

  2. Undo the front part of the mud guard/flap (a few screws and clips. (buy new clips as the ones removed will be damaged beyond use)

  3. Pull out the pump as suggested.

  4. Undo the visible bolt holding the water bottle. (There are, apparently two other impossible-to-get-to bolts, but forget them).

  5. Slide the pump cables and tubes behind the unbolted tab of the bottle. This is merely so that you can get some slack.

  6. Pull off the tubes. The cable plug is held with a clip - use a screwdriver or priers.

  7. The tubes are colour-coded. Push them onto the new pump. Plug in: if the plug dioes not fit, you have the wrong version of the pump. (Mine was rectangular and not round).

  8. Reverse the process.

This is all very fiddly, so you wil need patience.

Easy way: Ford advise to remove the front bumper, grille etc. but you don't need to. Instead jack up the front driver side and safely support the car to give you some room underneath. Look upwards under the front driver's side corner of the car in front of the front wheel and you'll see the white plastic washer bottle. Place a washing up bowl under this. At the bottom on the side nearest to the engine is the washer pump - a small black plastic unit with two thin hoses and a wiring plug on top. Release the wiring plug by pulling on the wire clip where it slides over the pump and push the plug upwards to release. Move away from the bottom of the washer bottle and pull the pump body towards the engine. It just pushes into the bottle with a rubber sleeve round it. As it comes out, all the washer fluid will pour out, hopefully into the bowl but usually straight up your sleeve! Then pull off the two thin hoses - remember which one is which and goes where - I put red and yellow electrical tape on mine - red for the rear hose, yellow for the front one but any method of remembering will do. Now the pump is removed. Reverse these instructions to replace it. Put the rubber sleeve in place on the pump body before you push it back into the hole in the washer bottle. Fill the bottle and try the washers. If the water comes out of the front jets when you're operating the rear switch, and vice-versa, you've put the washer hoses on the wrong outlets on the pump. In this case get back underneath and switch them over.
