stick a paper clip or something similar through the gap of space around the mileage reset pin. if you bend the paper clip properly, you should be able to knock the needle back over so that it rests on top of the little bar.
If the gas gauge stops working is there a fuse for it?
There is no reset for the fuel gauge. The sending unit in the fuel tank has probably failed.
your gas gauge float is in the gas tank you have to drop your gas tank and take out sending unit but if the gas gauge is not reading right you should check the ground wire on the gas tank
when the needle is all the way to the right(away from the red) the tank is full the closer the needle gets to the red the less gas you have
The fuel sensor in the gas tank is bad.
add fuel
Have fixed this issue many times... you need a STRONG magnet. Turn the ignition off, place the magnet over the gauge (on the clear plastic cover over the gauge cluster) on the end of the needle... it will react to the magnet and move when you move the magnet. Simply rotate the needle back into its proper position. Raise the magnet up... if it stays in the position, turn the ignition on... if your gauge is not broken, the needle should be reset and function properly.
$600 for a new pump, sending unit and labor
doesn't have one. i even called Chevy roadside assistance hotline
Well.. same thing happened to me and what you do is take a long paper clip and stick it through the travel reset button hole and and carefully move the gas gaige thingy around. The first time this happened to me with my Malibu i spent 35 bucks to have it reset it. It then happened a second time and i refused to have pay that again. I was amazed that it only took me like 3 seconds to do it .. and saved 35 dlls.
The sending unit in the gas tank is bad.
There's no way to reset this. If it's out of range or doesn't work at all, check wiring going from fuel sending unit inside the gas tank up to main harness. The fuel sending unit may just be worn out and need to be replaced.
