Disconnect the Negative(black) terminal from the battery for a minute then reconnetc. If this does not work, go to Autozone/Checkers/Pep Boys and plug in their code reader and clear the codes.

I HAVE A 2004 MITSUBISHI ENDEAVOR, AND THE ONLY TIME MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IS WHEN I FAILED TO CLOSE MY GAS CAP TIGHTLY. THE LONGEST THE LIGHT STAYED ON WAS FOR 3 DAYS AND THEN IT WENT OFF.
Its the light that signifies the traction control system has malfunctioned. Wheel bearings are a possibility for it to turn on I believe.
The owners guide for my '04 Endeavor says do not disconnect the battery I think, or the on board diagnostic record will be lost. maybe this would also clear the service engine light?
