take your battery cables OFF of the battery. Make sure BOTH cables are disconnected from the battery! touch the Red cable terminal to the black terminal. AGAIN make sure the battery is NOT hooked up to any cables! There will not be any spark or anything. You will see nothing happen. The only thing this is doing is discharging some caps in your ECU.
When you hook everything back up to the battery and start the truck the light will be off. The truck may run a little bit different for the first few drives. This is normal because you reset your ECU your truck has to "relearn" some things.

i would check to see if the o2 sensors have gone bad they will throw you a check engine light when they go out I have the same problem. It is the transmission. I have a 1999 Chevy Blazer and shortly after the Service Engine Soon light came on, my transmission started "slipping" between 1st and 2nd on an automatic. This only happens when the car gets warm on trips longer then about 15 miles.
