The SE had the DX and LX drivetrain, that is to say the 1.5L engine mated to either an automatic, or 5-speed manual transmission. The was the equivalent of the American ES model. The quickest way to identify a car packing the 1.8L engine, without popping the hood is to take a peek under the rear.
