i had the same problem on an 2001 gr.caravan. same thing happen. you either can change the whole cluster or have the motors changed on the backs of the needles that are rapped back.
On my 02 neon I had that problem. You can also pull the cluster out remove the front plate and rotate them back around to 0. Or drill a small hole in the center of the plastic and do it with a small pick if you don't care about that sort of thing. Either way solves the problem.
Wow. Change the whole cluster, change the motors, drill holes into the face and turn them with a pick? Try the needle reset procedure: hold the trip button down for a few seconds, turn the key to the "ON" position, and the cluster will reset itself. No drilling. No new cluster or motors...
The dealers scan tool can also usually recalibrate the needles to their proper places.
You can fix the speedometer in your 1994 Oldsmobile 98 by replacing the speedometer cable. If changing the speedometer cable does not fix your speedometer you will need to replace the entire speedometer.
could be the speedo cable?
By replacing it.
Try replacing the speedometer switch on the transmission.. that's probably your culprit.
1995 nissans do not use a speedometer cable ,they are electronic via sen unit speedometer unit ecm etc.
No, you do not as the computer does it, provided you install the correct one.
Drive as fast as you can and ignore the flashing lights behind you!
You would fix it by replacing the instrument cluster. The speedometer itself may not be faulty, it is more likely to be a problem with the speed sensor.
- I have a 2002 Caravan with the similar symptoms - speedometer stopped working but tripometer and odometer still work. The speedometer needle is wrapped all the way around past the top speed and resting on the bottom of the needle resting peg. I saw a posting about reseting the dashboard by removing the IOD fuse and replacing it but that did not help. I also tried pressing the trip button in and turning the ignition on as described in another post with no luck. Has anyone solved this or do I have a faulty speedometer requiring replacement? thanks Steve
very hard, I had to remove it using 2 screws at the back, then the sensor cable, then the 'dial pin' on the side. Once off I had to unpick the silver case using a screwdriver (as the glass underneath needed replacing on mine). good luck.
Check the #6 fuse. If it is good then the VSS needs replacing.
IF the speedometer is not working it is because the computer is note getting a signal from the trans. and will not tell it to shift. Try replacing the speedometer the sensor in the tail shaft of the trans.
