Most newer Toyota's are reset by
A. Making sure that your tripometer is set to the odometer reading (telling you total mileage of the vehicle) THIS IS WRONG. The setting should be on trip NOT total.
B. Turning your vehicle off
C. Holding down the trip reset button while turning key to on position (do not start).
The mileage should turn to dashes that flash. The dashes will dissappear one by one. Once they're all gone you should notice that your maintenance light has been reset.

It lets you know its time to change the oil. From what i understand it blinks a few times at when you've gone 4500 miles and stays on at 5000 miles. letting you know it s time to change the oil.
The check engine light comes on when the ECU detects a problem with the emission system. The maintenance required light comes on when some maintenance is required on the vehicle such as an oil/filter change.
The maintenance required light just means there is regular scheduled maintenance that needs to be done. Look in your owner's manual and it will tell you exactly what needs to be done. Can be just an Oil/Filter change. This applies to the Maintenance Required light and not to the Check Engine light.
Every 5K miles, the maintenance requied light goes on to let the owner know that it's time to change the oil.

the brakes were applied very hard and the engine light came on and the truck just idled fast with out being able to step on the gas , idled in to parking lot shut off truck and then the truck worked and engine light went off.
