Take it to your dealer!
I contacted the BMW dealership and they told me that this model year can only be reset with a computer system hooked up to the car.
The light comes on the dash right above the odometer.
Your best bet is to google E60 (thats the technical name for your model of car) cbs reset. It is easy to do but would take a bit to describe. And i didn't want to plagiarize anyone else's work.
Change the brake pads sensors. You must change them after every brake pad swap.
If the transmission can be "reset" there only two possibilities.Disconnect the battery for 30 secondsHave the computer connected to a scan tool and reset.
Jack vehicle up,( place on jack stands, wheels choked/P brake on-depending on axle))have to remove wheels, compress calipers, remove calipers and pads, insert new pads, replace brake pads sensor, reinstall, new pads, calipers, wheels, sensor and reset service interval, by turning key to accessories and waiting for brake service light to reset
First think to check would the be the ABS sensors for damage or corroded wires, and the pulse wheels next to them for rust and corrosion buildup.
This is for Push Button Start E60 models only..... Put 'key' unit in ignition. Leave car in gear and push the Push to Start Button ONCE. Don't worry, car will not start. This is called position 15. All dash lights will light. Now push and hold the Odometer reset button. It will initially light up a warning Triangle, continue to hold until the Oil can symbol lights up. The oil lamp is the first of the service lights to illuminate. They can all be reset by pressing in short bursts. But for the oil reset, when the oil can illuminates, let go, then press and hold. After about 3 seconds a message saying Reset? will appear. When it does, let go the button and press and again until the mileage indicator resets itself. Repeat as necessary for each of the required service indicators. These mimick the iDrive service menu settings, in order, incidentally. Hope this helps..... Aidan.
get on driver seat & look for two things. 1st: Check button (located on indicator stick) 2nd: reset button (small black stick button located on left side of the speedometer) Move the key to the ON position where all the lights turns ON but the car doesn't start. Push & hold the reset button until you see the service icon appears. Now press the check button couple of times until you see the brake fluid icon. Once the brake fluid icon appears press & hold the reset button again until the RESET icon appears. As soon RESET icon appears press & hold the reset button again until you see the new milage.
