How do you reset the passlock on 2002 Old Alero to get it to start?

Whenever you service the theft system you must do a relearn. Here is what you need to do. This is just a simple procedure that is going to reset the passlock system.
- Turn ON the ignition, withthe
engine
OFF. - Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
- Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
- Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
- The vehicle is now ready to relearn the PasslockTMSensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.

If the security light is flashing on the dashboard when the key is on the "on" position, the passlock system is enabled. Refer to you owner's manual to deactivate the passlock system.

IF YOUR BATTERY DIES I found the answer to this under Alero 2002 security system will not let you start the car with out leaving key on for 10 minutes then you turn the key off then it will start?and this worked for me too. My battery went dead and after a boost and several other things the car would still not start. I then tried the above (key in the ignition and turned to the on position for 10 - 15 minutes or until "Security" stops flashing on the instrument cluster) and it started right away. I believe with the PASSLOCK II TM system the resistance of the key must be read before the car will start. Thanks for the advice DD
