Hi All,
Just did this yesterday (24/9/10) to my 2004 1KZ-Te turbo diesel. Easy as (30 minutes max). You need to pull the dash cover off the speedo/tacho housing. Tools required- long handle and short handle Phillips head screw driver.
1) Two Phillips screws under the dash housing just above the speedo (use short handle screw driver) (drop the steering wheel adjuster to as low as you can to get it out easier)
2) with your hands carefully pry the plastic moulding 2 cm from the top corner of the radio shroud (there is a screw hiding under here- take it out) remove ash tray.
3) carefully pull the rest of the speedo shroud out, yellow plastic pop in clips around the shroud, no need for a screw driver here (plastic will scratch and mark) as it will pop out with a little playing. Remove shroud completely, takes a bit of manouvering, just keep an eye that the clips don't fall out.
4) remove 4 screws holding in instrament cluster
5) carefully remove instrament cluster, mine didnt have a speedo cable, all electric. Makes it easier.
6) you can remove the three wiring harnesses connectors now to make it easier to access or just flip it over and directly behind the speedo there are 2 screws and 3 holes, remove the screw that is next to the vacant hole and put it in the spare hole. (the two holes share a common circuit as you can see on the board)
7) run the engine to check the light goes off before you put everything back in.
8) now put everything back in, will all pop into place after a bit or manouvering. Take care not to knock the two metal screw plates for the two upper dash screws, I knocked the left one out and it dissapeared into the dash, it eventually fell out after abit of prying around.
* it will look like you have to remove the lower shrouds as well, you don't have to as the upper one you remove can be manouvered back into place easily, just take your time and go easy on the plastic. Good Luck
Now you have no annoying orange light.
