It usually means something is wrong about your engine. It depends on the age of your bimmer. More often it is oxygen sensor. However, you should find a BMW specific code reader tool to find out what is the trouble code. Many online shops sell it. I got mine from Bavarian Autosport. Then look up the code description from internet. Most of the code reader tool has the reset function as well. Hope this helps.
