a Ladino is a Jewish person who speaks Ladino, also called Judeo-Spanish. There are about 100,000 Ladino speakers in the world, mostly in Israel.Note: not to be confused with Latino, which is a person of hispanic origin.Ladino-Otherwise known as Judeo-Spanish, is the spoken and written Hispanic language of Jews of Spanish origin. Ladino did not become a specifically Jewish language until after the expulsion from Spain in 1492 - it was merely the language of their province. It is also known as Judezmo, Dzhudezmo, or Spaniolit. The Nazis destroyed most of the communities in Europe where Ladino had been the first language among Jews. Ladino speakers who survived the Holocaust emigrated to Latin America.
"Jewish" is not a language. 'Life' in Hebrew is "KHAI" or "KHAH-yim". In Yiddish it's "leben". In Ladino (medieval Spanish) it's "vida".

Ladino is a Jewish-Spanish sub language which was used in Spain during the era of Islamic Spain (12th-15th centuries) and was more or less extinct in Spain after the Spanish Inquisition of 1492, but Jewish Exiles continued to use the language throughout the Mediterranean (specifically Morocco, Greece, and Turkey) until most Ladino-speakers were murdered in the Holocaust or ended up in Israel and have declined to teach their children the language. Arab culture and its rich poetry influenced Jews to write poems in Ladino often of a romantic nature. Some examples of Ladino songs and poems can be found at the Related Link below.
