Tell them the truth. It may hurt their feelings. It's best to be totally honest with them. You don't have to come up with excuses, just tell them that you are not interested in dating them at this time.

or if you like them but not in that way say, "I'd rather just be friends"

Say, "I'm sorry, I can't," and then make up an excuse about what the question was about for example:

Q: Can I see your paper?

A: I'm sorry, I don't let anyone cheat off of me.

Another Example:

Q: Do you want to go out?

A: I'm sorry, I can't, I already have a boyfriend/ girlfriend.

If they said what's their name make up a fake one like Patrick or Mia.

Be honest and straight forward but polite. Simply tell them you are flattered and sorry but your not interested in them that way.
