Replace the hub bearings.
If they are vacuum operated then it could be the hubs.
It's for the locking hubs, enabling the switch to four wheel drive.
Although you have a manual shift on the transfer case the hubs lock in on vacuum. Chances are you have bad vacuum lines going to the hubs (about $150+ at a Kia dealer or $40 at your local service station). If not the lines, it will be the seals in the hubs.

The auto hubs are vacuum engaged. Good luck. Worst case, it is a seal in the hubs, and big bucks. Or, it could be a hose behind the brakes. Might need a trimming.

because there a horrable desing. that happend to my 2000 sportage. dont buy new hubs from kia go to worn.com and buy a pair of manuall locking hubs they will run you about 170 bucks. but well worth it.
