The auto hubs are vacuum engaged. Good luck. Worst case, it is a seal in the hubs, and big bucks. Or, it could be a hose behind the brakes. Might need a trimming.

Automatic 4x4 works but front hubs do not engage1994 ranger?

If the automatic 4x4 works but the front hubs do not engage in a 1994 Ranger, there is no 4 wheel drive. The transaxle for the 4 wheel drive has to be repaired.

What causes the 4x4 on a 2000 Nissan frontier to not fully engage or disengage?

If they are vacuum operated then it could be the hubs.

4 wheel drive won't engage on 1998 Ford Ranger?

Hello, I too have a 1998 Ford Ranger that the 4 wheel drive does not engage. I have been doing some research online and have found one main reason for this. Since our Fords are shift on the fly 4 wheel drive the hubs automatically engage for us when we switch that little nob. Well after 100,000 miles of doing this the automatic hubs wear down and the 4 wheel drive is unable to engage. I have done some research and those automatic hubs are about $200 each. But you can get the manual locking ones for about $75 each. If you get the $75 ones you will have to manually lock your hubs when using 4 wheel drive, but they will not wear out like the automatic ones do and they are cheaper.

Do the 98 4 wd tacomas have automatic or lock in hubs?

I have a 2000 tacomaa 4x4 and it has manual locking hubs. I have to physically get out and turn the lock. so I dont think so unless it has been customized.

Why wont 4x4 engage on 2001 kia sportage but light is on in dash?

I just had the same problem with ours. The automatic hubs went out on ours. The front hubs are also vacuum ran. The best solution is to buy a pair of Warn manual hubs from NAPA auto store and just replace the orig. auto. hubs with manual hubs. You will want to disconnect the vacuum solenoid on the drivers side, by the fender-well and tape it with electrical tape. This should solve all your problems. If your original automatic hubs are OK. then chances are there is a vacuum leak somewhere. That is why I suggest replacing them with manual hubs. Hope this helps and Good luck.....

Why won't your 4x4 engage in your 2002 Sportage the engage light comes on but only the back wheel spins?

Your hubs are probably bad. The vacuum hubs are known to cause problems. Replace with Warn hubs. Before replacing hubs, check vacuum lines TO THE HUBS, no tears or breaks allowed ,this fixed mine, rubber hose is cheaper.....upland

Why won't the 4 wheel drive engage on your 98 KIA Sportage?

the vacuume lines and hubs are damaged. chenge the hubs over to Warn style hubs. Look on the net for info on warn hubs.

Why won't 4 wheel drive won't engage on 2002 kia sportage?

My Sportage is a 2001 model but I also had trouble initially getting it into 4wd. The trick is to shift it when the clutch is engaged and you are moving. It goes easily from 2wd to 4wd and back again like this, but if you try to shift it while stopped and with the clutch pedal depressed, it won't go. If the shifter moves, but 4wd still won't engage, the problem is probably with the automatic locking hubs. These are activated by vacuum lines that are prone to breaking. Check that there is no leak at the vacuum solenoid (just forward of the master brake cylinder in the engine compartment), and then check the lines in the wheel wells. Replace any broken or defective lines. If 4wd still doesn't work, the problem may be with the automatic locking hubs themselves. These can be replaced with either replacement automatic hubs or manual hubs. Automatic hubs will restore shift on the fly capability, but the manual hubs are cheaper and more reliable because they don't rely on vacuum lines. You will however have to stop the vehicle and manually set the hubs every time you select 4wd. Good luck.

How do i put my 1989 ford bronco into 4WD it as atomatic hubs but i don't know if im supposed to put it in park then do it or what?

Automatic hubs are a pain in the butt sometimes, the trick in my F-150 is to engage the 4x4 lever while in a parking lot or something, then drive in reverse and cut the wheels back and forth until you can here the hubs lock in. Hope this helps!
