To set a trans (transmission) for towing, you would most likely turn off the over driver on the gear shifter. This is usually a button that is depressed to disable the overdrive.
the rubber plug is just an inspection hole.with towing you can overheat a transmission and it can pop the front seal out.you will have to have the seal inspected or replaced.do not drive truck as it can cause major damage,if it hasent already happened.make sure that there is a transmission external cooler,designed for extra cooling while towing

Was it ordered with a towing package? 2 door or 4 door? 6000 =7500 pounds with the proper equipment and up to 10,000, limited to proper hitch of class 3 or 4, trans cooler and stiffer springs and shocks designed for towing. For light towing a class 3 hitch and trans cooler is a must to prevent damage. ( sprint helper are cheap and a good bet to help stability) Don't forget your brakes system always tow a trailer that has it's own brakes if it weighs more that half the weight of the tow veichle.
