What is the rubber plug on the bottom of a 1996 E150 trans bell housing It was leaking trans fluid leaving a trail and puddle when stopped I think I overheated the trans after towing for 6 hours?

the rubber plug is just an inspection hole.with towing you can overheat a transmission and it can pop the front seal out.you will have to have the seal inspected or replaced.do not drive truck as it can cause major damage,if it hasent already happened.make sure that there is a transmission external cooler,designed for extra cooling while towing
