The basics are one inch of fish to 1 gal of water or six square inches of surface area and a cycled filter large enough to turn the whole of the water over at least once every 6 hours. Preferably 10% of the water should be changed weekly. The fine tuning depends upon a few things like what size is your budget, what species of fish you wish to keep in the tank and where do you intend the tank to be located.

Can tropical fish live wth brackish fish?

Tropical and brackish are not mutually exclusive. Tropical means warm, and brackish means somewhat salty. Many brackish fish ARE tropical, and many tropical fish are brackish. You can keep tropical brackish fish with other tropical brackish fish, if they have the same temperment and will not harm or eat eachother. You can keep some brackish fish with some freshwater tropicals, and similarly you can keep some brackish fish with some marine tropicals. There are no wide open set of principles for brackish fish compatability beyond those that I have just illustrated.

Is it safe to hang a tv above a fish tank?

well, yes...as far as I know. Unless the tv set were to FALL. It is not good to hang a fish tank over a tv set, though, 'cause when you're adding water, the water could drip on the tv and that'd be BAD.

Theres no fish in your tank yet and its already cloudy?

A recently set-up fish tank will gro through a cycle. Your water will cloud up due to the bacteria in your water trying to regulate itself. Nothing needs to be done as it will run it's course in about a weeks time and then it should be safe for fish.

Why do your little black ghosts dies during a week after adding them to your tank?

That depends on your tank. What other fish do you have, how long has the tank been set up, what is the water quality of the tank, etc? If the tank is not properly balanced, any delicate fish (such as those with very thin skin) will most likely die quickly.

How should you set up your goldfish tank?

A leaflet should have come with your tank about how to set it up and the equipment you will need but here is how i set up mine....... put ur tank away from direct sunlight or sound systems, your tank needs to be near plug sockets. 1.Thouroughly clean the gravel, ornaments and sindes of your tank with warm water, (DO NOT USE SOAP) 2.set up your filter and air stone in the tank. 3. dose water with nitrate killing stuff that you can usually buy in all pet shops 4. add the water carefully as not to move the gravel at the bottom 5.leave your tank for about a week to settle before adding any fish 6. buy one or two little fish to see if they survive, if they are ok you can start to any other fish. HOPE THIS HELPED (these were the intructions that came with my tank, i did not make this up)

How do you turn a mouse tank into a fish tank?

If it's a fish tank that has previously been used for keeping mice, then all you need to do is rinse it out thoroughly with hot water (don't use cleaning agents) and then set up a filter and heater, just as for any other fish tank - there are loads of websites that explain how to set up an aquarium. Don't forget to cycle your tank before you add fish! If you bought the tank as a mouse tank, I strongly recommend against trying to keep fish in it. This is because a mouse tank was never intended to hold water, and the quality of the glass and the seals just won't be adequate for the weight and pressure when it's full of water. It may not be watertight, and even if it is, you have a very good chance of coming home to find that either the sealant or the glass itself has failed and there's water all over the floor. In addition, the sealant used may be liquid nails or similar, which will leach toxic chemicals into the water and kill the fish.

Is it normal for you saltwater fish tank to be cloudy at first because I just set up my fish tank and it is cloudy but I am not sure if it is normal?

Do corycat fish get along with fancy guppies in a 10 gallon tank?

Provided the tank has sufficient water (1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water) and a cycled filter and a heater set to 75F and you change at least 50% ot the water very week there should not be any major problems.

Could new fish be put in a tank after the tank being set up for 24 hours?

I would wait a little longer... but it might work that is up to you however the fish might die quickly if you have not put all the nessesary chemicals in the tank of if the water has not been filtered enough times

When can you safely transfer goldfish to a new tank?

I bought my fish tank on the Sunday and then got home added the water and the aquarium conditioner and left over night so ruffle about 12-15hours and then bought the Goldfish the next day and gradually added water to the bag the fish come in every 5-10mins so they get used to your tank/pond water. the man in the fish shop said to me i should have waited to leave the water in the tank to settle for 4-5days before adding fish but mine are ok so as long as you have made sure you have filters running and have cleaned the tank and added your conditioner to the water, your goldfish should be fine:) don't feed to much, i do mine every other day, but like i would give them couple of pellets now and again they like that

My fish has string dragging around what is it?

This is a common problem and is usually caused by a poor set of living conditions. If the fish is not in sufficient water. "1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water" and if the tank is not getting sufficient water changes. (50% weekly at least) I would advise you to correct its living conditions first. To cure the fish add 1 level teaspoon of Magnesium sulphate (MgSO4) to 2 gallons of water in the tank. This treatment can stay in the tank for 6 days until the weekly water change and then it will be steadily reduced each water change. Consider feeding the fish some live food occasionally as well as its normal flake or pellets.
