Five years ago, my spouse and I chose to make a little koi lake in our terrace. We wanted l for a wonderfully finished lake with excellent blooming plants and a waterfall. Well with a considerable measure of diligent work, we were ready to attain this. This is without a doubt an extend that any DiY-er can handle. The hardest part about this task was moving the shakes that we used to make a divider for our raised couch lake and the moving all the soil and rock into our patio. This is unquestionably a work of adoration. If you are set to skip having a raised bunk then this could effectively be carried out in a weekend. For us it took something like 3 weekends and heaps of assistance from companions and my father.

What kind of fish koi get along with?

They get along with goldfish but you'll end up with babies that are part goldfish. I have them in the same pond and that's what happened to me. The main problem with putting Koi with other fish, is sometimes the other fish like to eat Koi.

How many fish can you put in a 380 gallon pond?

If the pond is at least 3 feet deep, you may be able to put a few Koi, but they can grow very large (up to 2 feet in size!) and can outlive their owners. This is also going to depend on the climate where you live, if you have many plants, moving water to add oxygen etc. Standard Koi ponds are typically a minimum of 1000 gallons.

How do you move koi fish from pond to pond?

You can simply fill up a cooler with your pond water and move the fish. Once you get to the new home, slowly add the new water to the cooler because the fish will go into shock from the immediate temperature change. The process should take around 20 to 30 minutes.

How much does a koi fish pond cost?

I know in southern Indiana they can run from $15.00 up to $50.00 - $60.00 depending on the kind of koi, and the condition of the fish.

Are there any kits available online that I can buy to light up my backyard garden pond?

I'm not sure if you mean in the pond water or around the pond. You should have a profesional install any lighting that will be exposed to water. But you can find lighting for the garden online. Hoe Depot online would be a good choice.

How do you stop a cat from eating pond fish?

Build up the sides of your pond to make it more difficult for the foxes to get to your Koi fish. There is also a product called the Scarecrow. It is a motion activated sprinkler system. When the fox comes close to the pond, the sprinkler will turn on and wet the fox, scaring it away.

What size tank can you put koi in I have a 30 gallon tank and want to get some koi?

That depends on if you fit the fish to the tank, or fit the tank to the fish. Koi will grow to the size of the tank. The bigger the tank, the bigger they will grow. You can put about 6 4 inch Koi in a 30 gallon tank. And of course, the bigger the fish, you need to adjust your tank size. The koi will quickly outgrow your tank! They will be like prisoners in a cell, not able to move around. Probably enough to survive if you keep up the waterchanges, but not enough to thrive. Koi belong in a pond.

Could 3 goldfish and 2 koi live in a 10 gal tank?

For a very short time if they are young fish, as in fry. Koi can grow to be very large fish in short while you might have a pair of 12 inch fish on your hands. Koi should get 12" within a year, they are really strictly pond fish (and a pond of over 1,000 gallons). On average Koi get around 24" long, but some varieties can get up to 4ft! Regular Goldfish are also fast growing and should get at least 4"-6" in a year, and should be full grown at 2 years (full grown being 10"-12" excluding tail). For 3 regular Goldfish you need a tank of at least 75 gallons or a pond over 600 gallons. The general rule for koi is an for every inch your fish is long (excluding the tail) you should have 10 gallons of water. These fish aren't suitable for a tiny 10 gallon!
