sew a seam with a 5/8 seam allowance.

then on ONE SIDE of the allowance, trim it to half the size. don't measure just eyeball it.

then press the seam allowance to one side with the [now] short allowance on top.

fold the longer allowance over the shorter and press it.

then flip the whole thing to the other side of the seam and press again.

finally, topstitch as close to the edge as you can.

flat felled seams are the strongest and are used where ever a great amount of tension exists, such as the seams on your jeans, or the shoulders in a shirt/jacket. they are also used in sports clothes.

How do you sew up a hole in the middle of the seam of a cotton tshirt without making it look terribly bad?

Flip it inside out and over stitch the hole, flip it back and iron it. If you have a serger or a friend with a serger, using the seamline, start about an inch above the hole and serge down to about an inch below the hole. Try to run the extra threads at both ends back inside the new seam, using a blunt embriodery needle; or tie a knot close to the start/finish of the new seam.

How do you sew with hammer beads?

do you mean Hama Beads? It would depend on if you were attempting to sew them as single beads or as fused multibead creations. The short answer is-- anything that has a hole in it can be sewn to fabric. as long as it's weight can be supported by the material you are using to 'sew' it with and the fabric you are sewing it to... you could sew up through fabric string the bead on your sewing material (thread or what have you), and then sew down through the fabric. You may need to make several stitches through heavier beads to secure them. You can also sew up through the hole in whatever item you are using and sew through a smaller bead and then back down through the larger hole (similarly to sewing on a sequin). If you are attempting to sew fused items, sew through multiple holes in the item to secure it flat to the fabric. It is often easiest to sew beads to fabric if it is under tension-- using either a hoop or a scroll frame is really handy, or you can staple it to a frame (which will support a lot more weight if you are doing a very heavy beading project).

Is this how you spell sew?

Yes, as in to sew material or buttons.

How do you sew foil lycra fabric without the sewing machine skipping stitches?

You might try using tissue paper or even toilet paper between your fabric and the soleplate of the sewing machine. After stitching, just peel the paper off. If you need more stability, use copier paper. You need to use good quality thread and a ballpoint needle. Stretch the fabric slightly as you sew. I would not put paper under the seam.

What do you need to applique?

In order to sew you need fabric, a needle, and thread. Some people find it helpful to sew projects using a pattern, which gives them step by step instructions. You may need other materials, like buttons and scissor, to sew a full project.

How do you secure the beginning and end of every seam?

To sew a concealed seam first sew the seam with the right side out wards, (the opposite way to how you would normally sew a seam). Next trim off the edges of the seam quite close to the stitch line. Lastly, turn the garment inside out and re-sew the seam close to the first stitching, you have now enclosed the first seam with its raw edges inside the second seam.

What seam is used for an outside leg seam in shorts?

If you are working with a standard pattern for leisure wear summer shorts, a simple straight stitch seam will be good enough. If you are making sports shorts, that will require a stronger finish, I suggest a flat fell seam.

What is French seam?

To make a French seam you sew your seam right sides together. at 5/8th in.... Then you trim away half of one side of the seam.... Then you press the seam towards the shorter half. Then you fold the longer half over the narrower half and press..... then you stitch up the flat open side..... that makes a double sewn seam called Frenched seaming.

How do you sew yoyos?

Sew 2 of the patches together, stopping 1/4" away from the edge of the fabric, and backstitching a few stitches. Push the seam allowances to one side, and sew the 3rd patch to one side of the Y, stopping your seam right before the needle pierces the stitches from the first seam. (The edge of the 3rd patch will extend 1/4" past the intersection of the 2 seams.) Sew the other side of the Y the same way, making sure you don't sew into or past the other seam lines.
