How do you shoot cattle?

Only shoot cattle if they are too dangerous for you to handle, or if they are too sick or injured to be helped. DO NOT shoot cattle for simply sport, as you will have the law on your tail like you wouldn't believe. You can use a revolver or rifle for this job, whatever gun you have on hand that will make a quick job of it, even a little .22 rifle. Now, draw a line, in your mind's eye, from one ear across the forehead to the inside-corner of the opposite eye, and do the same from the other ear to the opposite eye. Notice you have just drawn an X. And also notice the old Hollywood pirate's saying: "X marks the spot!". In the middle of the X is where you take your aim. Take careful aim at the bull's eye of that X. Then take a deep breath, let it out fully, and squeeze the trigger. If you're a good shot, then the animal will collapse without needing to shoot it a second time. If not, try again.

If you can't shoot the animal yourself, or if you don't have a gun in your possession, get a neighbor or friend that owns a gun to do it for you. The quicker you put the animal out of its misery, the better, no matter how difficult it is for you personally have to shoulder the burden of putting an animal out of its misery.

And please, don't be so flippin' happy about shooting a cow for the first time, as it is not something to be proud about, especially if its an animal that you have been working hard to save or quieten down. It can be hard to see to an animal that has to be put down. But, I will say that you may be relieved to see that the animal is put out of its misery, or that you have one less animal to worry about having snot blown down your back pocket.
