1. NEVER DROP IT.
2. When saying the pledge, take off anything on your head(sombrero, Baseball-cap, hats, etc.)
Since it's creation, the US Flag has stood for freedom and the American way of live. It is the symbol of our country and as a US citizen, I respect the flag and for all those who have died under our Flag to keep freedom alive.
The significance of US flag is to show that were the best. The significance of the United States flag is that it represents the United States of America. The thirteen stripes represent the original 13 colonies and the stars represent each state in the United States of America.
Fly it properly - right side up. Fold it in proper triangle shape. Dispose of weathered and tattered flags properly by turning them over to a local VFW. http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagetiq.html http://www.diplomaframe.com/pages/344_proper_flag_care.cfm
there are 7 red strips on the us flag
there are 13 stars on the us flag
You do not show respect to a flag by not doing the pledge of allegiance and throwing the flag on the ground.

Recite the Pledge of Allegience.
put up a flag
It is just a way to show respect for a country :)
To show respect or mourning after a death.
I am not US citizen. I participate with my boys in scouting where we have a flag ceremony at each major meeting. The flag is brought up and the pledge of allegiance is recited. Since I respect the other people in the room, I stand silently while this is done. When the pledge of allegiance is recited, I stand silently on the side. I do not recite the pledge because it would not be authentic since I am not a citizen, but, I show respect by standing next to others. Even though I am not a US citizen, I am a citizen of another country and understand and believe in showing respect to ones flag and symbols. In my mind, this is like when you attend a sporting event and another countries flag and national anthem is sung, you stand silently showing respect.
First and foremost, show RESPECT for the US flag and what it stands for. The US flag stands for liberty and freedom. It stands for all of those who fought for (and those who died for) the liberties we have come to know and love. It stands for the insight and vision that our forefathers had for this new republic. Show respect by standing, removing your hat, and being silent as you watch the flag parade past. Show respect by flying the flag at your home and business, lighting it at night, and seeing that it is replaced when it becomes tattered, torn, and discolored. Wear a US flag pin on your left side over your heart. To do these things is to honor the unique wisdom of our nation's founders who came from various walks of life and pledged their lives and fortunes to fight and struggle for our nations freedom - an individuals' freedom and a nation's freedom of self governing.
In 1936, the Americans refused to dip the flag to Adolph Hitler and thereby show no support to Nazi Germany. Ridiculous as it may seem to the rest of the world, this is now a tradition for them.Added:This is not the reason. The US Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, section 176 states:§176. Respect for flagNo disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. It is neither a "tradition" nor ridiculous nor did it start with the 1936 Olympics. It is how a US citizen is taught to honor and show respect for our flag.
if you are talkin bout the american flag 50 star, 1 for each state
it is to show respect and remembrance of those who died for us
You should show respect for your country's flag because it is your country's highest and most recognizable symbol, and the way you treat it is representative of your attitude towards your country. Obviously is you have no respect for your country, traditions, culture and history, you have no reason to show any special respect for your flag over any other piece of cloth, but if you have respect for your country, treating the flag appropriately is a manifestation of that. Flag etiquette varies somewhat from country to country, but the basics are that the flag should not touch the ground, should be kept in good repair, flown the right way up, and flown at the same height as all other national flags.
