You must find a place that is lower in elevation than the bottom of your pool if draining completely. This will be where you will drop your hose and where the water will drain out. Your water level will only drain as low as this location. Next turn on your spigot with hose connected then retrieve end of hose where water is coming out. Hold end of hose above spigot. Turn off spigot. Kink or hold thumb over end of hose and disconnect hose from spigot and kink or hold thumb over that end. With hose now full of water (primed) carry over to pool careful to not let any water out (lose prime). Drop one end of hose in pool and let sink to bottom, now carry other end to lower elevation point I mentioned earlier. Now take thumb of or let kink out of end. Water should be coming out and will continue to until water in pool drops to elevation point where water is draining out. If that point is lower than bottom of pool, the pool will drain completely.

Fiberglass pools should not be drained completely as the earth around pool could cave it in. The same goes for above ground pools that have dirt around them. It is recommended you never drain a pool completely because there is always a risk of structural damage. Leaving one or two feet in bottom is recommended.

How do you completely drain an above ground swimming pool when it has already been closed down and disconnected?

siphon the water out with a hose. You can even get a siphon going with a pool vac hose. Just get the whole hose full of water in the pool, keep one end of it submerged in the pool put yous hand over the other end so no air can get into it lift it over the edge of the pool and when it is below water level let go. the water will just pour out until there is no more water in the pool.
