Drugs or you can't

I posted a link on chicken molting in the related links box below.

You can force molt by turing off the lights in the barn, but therefore they have to be indoor chickens. Turn off the lighs for 3-4 days, which makes the chickens think it is winter. Don't supply as much food and water as usual. Molting lasts about 2 weeks.

You can put a vitamin tonic into their water, otherwise it is part of their normal life cycle. Feeding extra does not hasten the duration of the molt. The feathers must drop out and be renewed.

Good nutrition will help. Water soluble tonics can be added to the flocks daily water rations to help boost vitamin and minerals.

How would you get a flock of chickens to lay large quantities of eggs every day?

Chickens lay one egg every 28 hours. There is no way to speed this up, so you would have to have sufficient numbers of laying hens to achieve the number of eggs you want per day. Also, chickens go through a period of laying inactivity during which they replace all their feathers. This is the molting process and you cannot bypass this either.

What is the difference between laying chickens and meat chickens?

Chickens only lay eggs. Baby chickens (chicks) hatch from those eggs and grow up. If the eggs are not fertilized, however, then they will not hatch. Those are the ones that are eaten.

You have one hen that is laying how do you get the rest of the hens to start?

There is no way to force a hen to lay. You can bump up their nutrition by feeding more layer feed. You can add a tonic to their water to increase vitamin intake. But if they are just starting to become old enought to lay, have patience is all you can really do.

My chickens find my cats food from time to time before I have a chance to pick up the bowl will the cat food harm my chickens if they eat it?

no chickens eat everything, sometimes i think they are more like pigs then pigs are. I actually fed my chickens catfood when they were molting, gave them extra protein for growing back their feathers.

How long do laying hens moult?

The molting process can take several weeks to a few months to be complete. Molting tonic is available to help speed the process but just a bump up in feed amounts and the addition of fresh vegetables will help replace vitamins lost during this time. You will notice a drastic drop in egg production during the molt also, it too will recover when the molt ends.

What would happen if a hermit crab dug a hole in the sand and went in it?

Nothing really. It is probably molting or just trying to get some shade. Look up " What should you do when your hermit crab is molting? " for what to do when your hermit crab is molting. Or just type in " molting " to know what molting is.

Why are your hens not laying in cold weather?

My chickens, as well, don't lay eggs like they used to -- chances are, they are old, or possibly, your chickens are sick. However, the more likely probability is their age. Most chickens stop laying eggs after a few years; or they will lay very few.

When chickens have settled how long is it until they lay?

It can take up to a week or more for the hens to settle down and get to laying. Be patient and supply a clean, quiet, dark nesting area for them.

Why would chickens all laying eggs in one big pile?

Are hens that give green eggs good to eat?

Chicken serve a dual purpose: They provide eggs and meat. Realize that the chickens we get in the grocery store are only around 6-8 weeks old. Chickens don't start laying until they are around 6 months old. So, if you are thinking about cooking up old layers, the meat will be tougher than that from young chickens.

What do chickens do at night?

A chicken has not set sleep pattern. Chickens will fall asleep on and off throughout the day. Chickens will sleep laying down and when standing. This is true for chickens at all stages in their life cycle.
