If you are a minor, there is not much you can do if the parents have a job and the family is moving to accomodate that. The best thing is to accept it as an opportunity, which it is, however painful it is to leave your current school, friends and so on. If you have a logical reason that would affect their decision then you can matter of factly present it--but it should concern the whole family's welfare.

  • If there is joint custody of your children then you have a say in where the mother moves too and it would be wise to see a lawyer to deal with this matter so that custodial rights will be fair for both parents and the children.

Can a noncustodial parent stop the custodial parent from moving?

This is hard to answer because there can be many variables involved. The noncustodial parent may contest the move and take the custodial parent to court to show cause. But it may not be possible for the noncustodial parent to actually prevent the move unless the move is out of state.
