A horse eating manure can be a sign of a hungry horse, a horse that isn't getting the right minerals & nutrients in their diet or a very bored horse. #1 - Make sure they are getting enough (QUALITY) feed and forage every day #2 - Make sure they are getting enough nutrients & minerals - Provide a mineral & salt lick block #3 - Keep manure cleaned out of their areas as well as is reasonably possible.

Eating wood could be a sign of boredom, stress, or lack of the nutrients it needs. In the wild, horses will eat bark off of trees because it has some of the nutrients they need. Wood is similar to that.

Try getting a professional to look at your horses diet. He/She can tell you if anything's missing. If he has a good diet, you could try giving your horse some toys to prevent boredom. If he still eats wood, then try to reduce his stress. Stress could be from being around aggressive herd members. Watch how he acts with the other horses. A few kicks are normal, but if they won't let him anywhere near them without trying to tear off some skin, then it's time to look for new pasture mates. If he doesn't have any pasture buddies, this could also cause stress because he feels unsafe since safety is in the herd. Try getting him some buddies. If he just moved, then he could be stressed from the move, and should soon settle down.
