Disconnect everything connecting the motor to the body and mark locations with tape and letters showing how to reconnect, place any loose bolts ect. in bags labeled with where they came from. ofcourse use hoist to get old engine out and new engine in. will probably have to pull out the transmission with the engine if you cant get it to clear the engine but hopefully you can leave the trany in the car. i hate compact cars, too small, which a 2002 cougar is. cougars turned worthless after 1998 but that's my opinion haha. use the tape markings on the old engine to hook all connections from the body back up to new engine. easy as pie if you pay attention when u take it out. i just wont mention that it will probably take atleast a week to do if your doing it yourself. have fun!
It should with minimal problems fit. There were some slight changes to the Duratec engine in the cougar between the '00 and '01 model years, including a better, and easier to replace alternator. but a straight swap shouldn't be too hard. Another thing you can do is a swap from a Ford Contour or Mercury Mystique. or if you want some more power and are willing to go through some trouble to get it working right, the 3.0 liter duratec out of the sable, taurus, and escape vehicles of similar years provides a nearly drop in fit with substantially increased power.
you should be able to.the only thing that might be different is the wiring harness
No the engines are not interchangeable.
The Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique here in the USA used the same spec motors, and in europe, the Mondeo used the same motors from the early '90s till around 2002. You can also mount a 3.0L duratec from a Taurus, Sable, or Escape, though the swap process is a little daunting for most people.
Bascially they are the same engine.
with enough time and money, anything will fit, but in this situation, you can't swap engines without some modifications
yes they are the same engines.
the '93 cougar can swap parts with any cougar between '89 and '96. Since you have a '93, I'm guessing it's an XR-7 (performance) model, so try to find other XR-7's. You can also interchange parts with the Ford Thunderbird of the same model years.
Yes, you can swap them. Just has to be an engine of the same year or newer for emmissions purposes. THE ANSWER ABOVE IS WRONG. UNFORTUNATELY, YOU CAN ONLY SWAP A 2002 - 2003 ENGINE WITH A 2002 - 2003 ENGINE. 2004 (AND NEWER) ENGINES ARE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT. THESE DIFFERENCES HOWEVER MAKES THE SWAP NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE...HENCE, YOU WILL FIND THAT 2002-2003 LIBERTY ENGINES ARE SUBSTANTIALLY HIGHER IN PRICE THAT THE 2004 AND UP ENGINES. YOU WILL FIND PLENTY OF EXAMPLE ON THE INTERNET WHERE PEOPLE TRIED THE SWAP UNSUCCESSFULLY. GOOD LUCK. '02-'03 engines will interchange with each other only (main difference is the reluctor wheels on the crank and cam). '04 engines only work in '04 due to having unique computer setup (again the reluctor wheels). '05-'06 interchange with each other and '07+ will not go in the older ones due to addition of EGR (right head is the same and that is about all that will swap externally).
can you swap 3.5 into 2.5 on 2002 nssan altima
It depends on the engine size You know 3.8L, 5.0L it really matters......Are you going with the same size or not ? (REPOST WITH THE DETAILS) It's a 2.5L, and want something BIGGER ...? the only sizes that fit are the 2.0 zetec, 2.5 duratec, 3.0 duratec on the sable, taurus, and some escapes depends on the years.. go to newcougar.org for information they have a how to for that and the engines that fit.
Youll need a fair amount of cash. You have to get the manual trans obviously, a new computer, wiring harness, tons of stuff. It would honestly be a waste of money, I have a 2002 Cougar with a CD4e trans like yours, its horrible. I put exhaust and short ram intake on it, it was kind of fast, but the CD4E is meant for 4cyl engines, and the smart people at Ford put it in v6 Cougars..Fords suck, get a Honda Civic, Toyota Celica, Acura Integra/RSX, Nissan 240sx, or Mazda Miata. They are all better cars, will last longer, and potentially alot faster for way cheaper than a Cougar. No one makes parts for Cougars anymore, especially performance parts.
