Youll need a fair amount of cash. You have to get the manual trans obviously, a new computer, wiring harness, tons of stuff. It would honestly be a waste of money, I have a 2002 Cougar with a CD4e trans like yours, its horrible. I put exhaust and short ram intake on it, it was kind of fast, but the CD4E is meant for 4cyl engines, and the smart people at Ford put it in v6 Cougars..Fords suck, get a Honda Civic, Toyota Celica, Acura Integra/RSX, Nissan 240sx, or Mazda Miata. They are all better cars, will last longer, and potentially alot faster for way cheaper than a Cougar. No one makes parts for Cougars anymore, especially performance parts.
On a 2000 Mercury Cougar : No , only the automatic transaxle ( transmission ) has a dipstick
it uses Mercon V at transmission fluid. both automatic and manual transmission
Actually , the manual transaxle does not have a dipstick ( just the automatic )
check your owners manual?
Manual transmissions dont use fluid, they use a kind of grease.
Motorcraft MERCON automatic transmission fluid for the automatic and 5 speed manual transaxles according to the owners manual
Yes you can. Manual or Automatic, taken from either the I4 or the V6. You can also use transaxles (the technical word for Ford front wheel drive transmissions) out of Ford Contours and Mercury Mystiques produced between '95 and '00.
Motorcraft MERCON automatic transmission fluid for the automatic transaxle ( according to the owners manual )
Motorcraft MERCON V - automatic transmission fluid , according to the owners manual
According to the 1997 Mercury Tracer Owner Guide : For the automatic and manual transaxle ( transmission ) ( Motorcraft MERCON Multi Purpose automatic transmission fluid )
You should be able to find a shop manual at your local library with the right info...make copies as they are usually only in the REFERENCE section....good luck:)
