You do not need to switch to anything. You have to have internet connection (usually a modem), connect your wireless router to your modem (you need to know DNS servers of the internet provider) using the lan cable which usually comes with the router. And you are good to go.

Better download and upload speeds with wired than wireless. so even if you already have a wireless internet connection you might want to switch to wired for faster download speeds and no loss of connection. The loss of connection was worse when system was not password protected.
