Lops (floppy-eared rabbits) should be cared for the same as other domestic rabbits.

Rabbits (like all pets) need:

  • Healthy diet
  • Suitable habitat (safe, stimulating)
  • Medical care (first aid, vet)
  • Encouragement to express natural behaviours
  • Protection from dangers

There are many resources online that can help you learn about these things. (See related questions and links below).

Another person writes: Buy from the pet store a 500ml bottle, small pellets (make sure they are 100% animal-free), a hutch (small one), bag of hay, cage for him/her to run around in. The girls are very cheeky and hard to catch. The boys are very calm and easy to take care of.

Well first you get a good sized hutch for the rabbit and maybe 1 or 2 litter boxes so it will be easier to clean. You then fill it with wood-shavings and hay. You can buy these at the pet shop. Also Timothy Hay is good for their digestive system. You then buy a bottle for the rabbit. This is an essential item for the rabbit. Most bottles comes with the wires. Then get 2 bowls, metal ones are best because they don't tip over and produce less bacteria than the plastic ones. Fill the bowls with the food they were fed in the shop, if you want to change food brand mix the old food and the new food slowly gradually going into the new food. If you change it straight away the rabbit could have diarrhea and diarrhea can cause death. Rabbits normally get fed 2 times a day. Also you can buy fun toys for the rabbit. Make sure they're rabbit toys so they can entertain themselves. Also you might need to get some hard sweetcorn specially made for rabbits. The are in pet shops again. They need these hard ones because their teeth grow continuously and it needs to go down, or you can use hard tubes, they love these and it helps their teeth too. Rabbits need a lot of exercise too so make sure your garden is rabbit proof so nothing can in or out, high fences go into deep grounds. Also your rabbit need its nails clipped, you can buy special rabbit nail clippers. Sounds quite a lot Good luck! =] :)

A careful, gentle "butt bath" sometimes becomes necessary to keep caustic bodily fluids away from the rabbit's skin. Rabbits are not accustomed to being wet and cold, and generally do not enjoy a full bath, so try a dry bath using corn starch first. Liberally apply the cornstarch to the soiled areas, and gently work the powder down through the fur to the skin. As the cornstarch coats the mess, it should slide away easily. Use a soft brush to loosen any remaining debris and matted fur, and brush away any excess powder. In just a few minutes your rabbit should be clean and sweat smelling

If this doesn't prove sufficient, a wet bath may be necessary. Start by simply washing the area with warm water and a cloth, gently massaging the dirt away. If this isn't enough, a very shallow bath may be necessary, no more than an inch or two of warm water in a small basin. Working on the floor is best; in case the rabbit manages to escape and jump out, it won't hurt itself. Carefully submerge your rabbit's bottom into the bath, and gently work the soiled area clean. A hypoallergenic, non-medicated petshampoo from your veterinarian or pet supply store may be used, only if absolutely necessary. Make sure to dry your rabbit thoroughly, gently working any remaining matted fur loose with a comb or brush.
