I know I might be a little late on this but get the rat from a good breeder. do not get it from the pet store because they don't socialize them, or see if they are sick. Breeders do. First, give it a very big cage. My rats have a 4 story cage to keep them active . you might want to put some activities in the cage for it. my rats have a wheel, hammock, igloo, and a piece of wood for chewing. You have to give the rat 45min.-1hr. of play time in a rat-proofed room. Let them just run around and have fun! The food it might want would be rat block or rat and mouse pellet foods w\ seeds pellets and all sorts of stuff. Rats get sick extremely easily so if you are sick do not handle them because I read that if you do handle them there is a 85% chance the rat will get it sick also, ask some one else to to it for you. It all depends on the breed of hamster. Usually rats tend to be bigger when fully grown than a fully grown hamster. And if its a dwarf hamster the rat is definitely bigger.
Same way you care for a normal rat. Lots of research into diet, housing, husbandry & handling.

start with a good cage for the rat, get rat food and water. remember to take it out of its cage a lot so it doesn't get scared when it needs to. also have a great friendship together.
Feed it milk and if it will still not eat take it to the vets.
Rat infestations can be remediated by hiring a professional exterminator, or by using rodent poison. The chemical solution should be undertaken with care as the products are hazardous.
Not usually, the snakes are too small to take on a full grown rat, however they might take baby rats.
well, is it an East African black rat? or is it a North American albino white rat?
It depends on how long each day you talk to it and how often you hand feed it. and if you show care and concern towards it.
