They just slip on over the studs so all you have to do is remove the tire. However, if they have been there for a long time they might have corroded themselves and become stuck so best way I found is with a soft faced hammer and wail on the drum all around the edge until it breaks free.

you either have a vacuum leak or your brake booster might be going bad. That would cause you brake pedal to be stiff. As for it pulling when you brake and then braking fine after pumping it you might have a brake caliper sticking.
