For Outer tie rods: Remove tire, remove cotter pin undo the 17 mm nut until threads are covered but nut is still on, then hammer the nut until the ball joint pops off or use a ball joint separator on the ball joint till it pops off... once the ball joint is loose, mark the tie rod with a visible marker or chalk and unscrew and replace with new outer tie rod... the reason why you mark it is to keep your alignment as close to your old one as possible so you can still drive your car to an alignment shop afterwards. For inner tie rod: remove tire remove ball joint as mentioned above but you don't need to unscrew the outer tie rod unless you are keeping it. Remove the wire wrap around tie rod rubber boot and move the boot toward the outside of the car, beneath it you will see a little clip with four tabs, you have to pry at each of those tabs with a screw driver until they are loose then use a adjustable open end wrench aka crescent or pipe wrench and loosen the tie rod, IIRC counter clockwise just like normal threads. If you need a little clearance while loosening you can turn the steering wheel and it will move the steering rack. Order the tabs at the dealership or use really strong loctite when reassembling b/c you really dont want this part to come loose! Then put everything together in reverse order and don't forget to get an alignment afterwards.

Get an alignment. If still the issue, the inner and outter tie rods can be adjusted if only a certain wheel. If its both sides then you can pull the steering wheel and place it back on in the correct spot.

How do you replace tie rods on 2000 neon?

There are two types of tie rods on a 2000 Dodge neon. The outer-tie rod connect to the inner-tie rods which mount to the steering rack. The outer units are threaded on to the inner- tie rods. Remove them by spinning it counter clockwise. Take a special tie rod socket to remove the inner-tie rod. Replace the units.

How do you replace the inner and outer tie rods on both sides of a 1991 Nissan 240SX?

First jack up the front of the car, at the front crossmember. You'll need a pair of pliers to remove the cotterpins on the outer tie rod ends, and to get the wire rap off the inner tie rods (where it meets the power steering rack). A 30mm, 21mm, 19mm, and what ever takes the nut off the old tie rod end (where it meets the front spindle). Your best bet is to take your front wheels off, use either a "fork" wedge to pop off the old tie rods of the front spindles or the 22mm wrench and some leverage. Next pull back the rubber boot and use the 30mm combo wrench to remove the tie rods from the power steering rack, its not as hard as it seems. By the way you don't need to separate the tie rod end from the tie rod inner to remove them. After you get them off slip new boots on the tie rod inner, screw the outer onto the inner and do the reverse of the install. The first one might take you 35 min. But the second one shouldn't take more then 10 min. I installed the larger TEIN tie rods and I love it! Good Luck.

A car may sway after putting new inner tie rods due to corrosion. This may also be due to the tie rods being uneven.
